About the Artist
“Steve, Carmen, and the entire band are consummate musicians and entertainers” - Rebecca Weller, Producer Summer Mid-Summer Night Swing Festival, Lincoln Center, New York City
“Carmen Getit wrings a mean, meaty moan from a Gibson.” - Adam Levy, Guitar Player Magazine
Acclaimed swing and rhythm & blues band Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums featuring Miss Carmen Getit return to Michigan for a special performance with a stellar lineup of local jazz legends. Hailed by Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing as “consummate musicians and entertainers,” the Oakland, California-based band led by the dynamic duo of pianist/vocalist Steve Lucky and guitarist/vocalist Miss Carmen Getit, is renowned for their high-energy shows and interpretations of vintage jazz. For this exclusive Michigan engagement the two will be joined by local jazz greats Paul Keller on bass, Keith Kaminski on saxophone, and Pete Siers on drums. A Michigan native, Steve Lucky first made his mark as bandleader of the beloved 1980s Ann Arbor group The Blue Front Persuaders, known for transforming every gig into a raucous celebration of music and showmanship. That same infectious energy and charisma continue to define the Rhumba Bums' performances today. Steve & Carmen blend swinging jazz standards with the driving R&B of the 1940s and '50s, presenting lively original compositions along with timeless classics from the Nat Cole Trio, Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington and Big Joe Turner. As DownBeat Magazine’s Frank-John Hadley writes: “The Rhumba Bums abide by Cab Calloway’s advice: ‘Live what’s in your soul and sing your friggin’ heart out.’”
