Pianist/Arranger Alina Morr, best known as pianist and arranger for the Grammy nominated jazz group, Straight Ahead brings her deep love of Latin music, developed during her years living in Santo Domingo, and frequent trips to Cuba, to her newest project, Urban Tropical.
The group, which features Detroit’s top Jazz and Latin players, plays authentic Cuban Son, Mambo, Salsa, and Latin Jazz. They also include some funky dance numbers in the best tradition of Poncho Sanchez’s funk repertoire.
The band consists of: Eddie Caraballo, Bass and Vocals; Armando Vega, Conga and Vocals; John Douglas, Trumpet; Christopher Kaercher, Saxophone and Flute; and Djallo Djakate Drum Set.
