The Arklight Quartet is an Ann Arbor based jazz/BAM group that seeks to take well known standards and post-bop tunes and bring them beyond the written page. Each member brings their own unique identity to the group, allowing the songs to flow in unexpected and personal ways.
Salvador Flores is an saxophonist from Texas, pursing his Masters in both Classical Saxophone and Improvisation. A versatile player, Salvador draws heavily from his love of contempt classical music and Mexican music. Mercer Patterson is a pianist/composer from New York City pursing a BFA in Jazz studies and a BM in Composition. He plays in number of bands around Ann Arbor as both a leader and a sideman, all in a different array of styles. Alex Lepanto is a drummer from Montreal Quebec, finishing up his Masters in improvisation. Alex has spent many years in the Montreal music scene playing everything from heavy metal to freely improvised music. Jack Nissen is a Bassist hailing from New Providence, New Jersey and is pursing a BFA in Jazz studies. Jack is heavily influenced by musicians such as Miles Davis and Hank Mobley. They all currently study at the University of Michigan
