$15Bob Sweet Quartet
Jazz ensemble led by veteran local drummer Sweet, an early member of the Sun Messengers.

- This event has passed.
Bob Sweet grew up in Detroit and immersed himself in the city’s jazz, blues, rock, and soul scene. His first formal drum instruction was with Gene Stewart, who had played with Woody Herman and others. Genegot him his first jazz gig in a trio with pianist Kathleen Landis. Bob also played with the Sun Messengers, Faruq Z. Bey, and Roy Brooks’ Aboriginal Percussion Choir. Bob’s second musical home is Woodstock, New York, where he first attended the Creative Music Studio (CMS) in 1976. From 1976 up until 2019, Bob’s CMS escapades have placed him in performance or workshop settings with Karl Berger, Jack deJohnette, Marilyn Crispell, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Ed Blackwell, Oliver Lake, Billy Martin, and too many others to list here. Bob is the author of two books chronicling CMS’s legendary history.
