Blue Note saxophonist Dave McMurray brings a gritty, soulful Detroit sound to the music of the Grateful Dead in his acclaimed Grateful Deadication series. Blending jazz, rock, and R&B, McMurray reimagines Dead classics with a powerhouse Detroit rhythm section and features guests like Bob Weir, Bettye LaVette, and Don Was.

A former member of Was (Not Was), McMurray’s career spans collaborations with legends from B.B. King to Herbie Hancock. Though not a lifelong Deadhead, a surprise set with Bob Weir in 2018 sparked a deep dive into the band’s catalog—leading to his genre-defying tributes that marry improvisation with melody in unexpected, electric ways.
