Bassist and Vocalist Gwenyth Hayes’ hybrid reinterpretations give due respect to classic songs and soul covers from many genres and eras. They center around her sultry voice, groove-oriented bass lines and tight instrumental arrangements. This approach serves to reinvent popular soul, jazz, soft rock, and blues standards with a sensual and contemporary feel. Gwenyth’s sound appeals to diverse audiences and is meant to be reminiscent to many generations.
Gwenyth’s ensembles have performed at multiple festivals and venues throughout Southeastern Michigan, Chicago, and Honolulu, Hawai’i 2010-present. In 2021 she performed for Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s (A2SF) “Giving Tuesday” Concert and A2SF’s Tiny Tops 2021 concert series, Madison Heights Music Festival, & Alpena Blues Festival. Past festivals include the multiple years at Arts, Beats, and Eats, Ann Arbor Jazz Festival, University of Michigan’s Gift of Arts, North Atlantic Blues Festival, Ann Arbor Art Fair. She has also been featured in Buddy Guy’s Legends Magazine, University of Michigan’s Newsletter, Ann Arbor News, Big City Rhythm and Blues Magazine.
Throughout her career she has also performed as a professional bassist in support of other blues, pop, and soul artists. Some of the highlights of her career are opening for B.B. King with Murali Coryell (son of the late Larry Coryell), The Chicago Blues Festival (2010 & 2013) with Delmark Records recording artist Quintus McCormick and Khalif “Wailin'” Walter, and playing Detroit Blues Festival (2009) at Chene Park Amphitheater (Aretha Franklin Park). During her time in Chicago 2010-2013, she routinely performed at the world famous Buddy Guy’s Legends, Kingston Mines, and B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted. She has also toured with Murali Coryell, Laura Rain and the Caesars, and Alligator Records recording artists Maurice John Vaughn & Toronzo Cannon.
