Nate Topo Quartet ft. Zania Alaké

Sets at 7pm and 8:30pm | $25 Cover

About the Artist

Straight out of high school, Nate Topo began singing his own songs and soon released his debut album featuring his mentors, Gayelynn McKinney, Ralphe Armstrong, Vincent Chandler, and others. Nate’s talents have since taken him beyond Detroit to cities like Los Angeles and New Orleans, where he played alongside Jazz luminaries such as Charlie Gabriel and Shannon Powell.

Inspired by revolutionaries like Lester Young and Eddie Harris, Nate gives precedence to a more individualistic approach to the saxophone. He’s developed a unique sound that captures any room with fresh, soulful, and melodious solos. Nate also attributes his distinctive tone to his vintage saxophones. His lineup includes a 1919 tenor, 1926 alto, 1906 soprano, and 1970 baritone. These instruments help Nate emulate the sounds of artists who have influenced him from a young age while simultaneously allowing him to explore new sonic concepts.

Zania Alaké
Music is life and for Zania Alaké, it’s her safe place. Upon one listen, the soul in Zania’s voice will take you through every decade and leave you spellbound.

Despite being vocally trained, Zania’s confidence in her voice didn’t match her incredible talent. She found security in singing background for artists like Tyrese, Gwenation, Phil Perry, Kimyana Reese, & Darnell Kendricks. It wasn’t long before she realized she didn’t belong in the background.

Zania’s confidence blossomed beautifully as she performed at open mics helping her realize it was time to stand on her own as an artist & sing her own music.
