ABOUT OLIVIA:
Olivia is a young performer with an old soul influenced by swing and bebop jazz from the mid-20th century. Music is undeniably a part of her identity, her voice being the instrument she communicates with. She draws from the Great American Songbook and other jazz standards in a way that is beyond replicating what has already been done before. Each and every performance and recording exemplifies a rich understanding and musicality that is uniquely her own while still paying tribute to jazz tradition and the ones who created it.
ABOUT JOSIE:
Josephine Ala is an aspiring jazz trumpet player from Windsor, Ontario. She picked up the trumpet at age ten after hearing the sounds of Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Louis Prima. Though her musical roots are as a classically trained pianist, since she discovered Detroit’s jazz scene, she hasn’t looked back. She is an alumnus of the Detroit Civic Youth Ensembles, to which she accredits her greatest musical influence. She has played alongside the Civic Youth Jazz Orchestra and Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra where she was able to come out of her shell and discover her true passion for the trumpet. She recently performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival with the University of Michigan Jazz Ensemble.
