About the Artist

Bass Trombonist Wyatt Forhan is an aspiring young musician from St. Louis, MO. Wyatt began his musical career at the age of three when he learned drums and then progressed to discover jazz and classical piano at the age of 8. Wyatt started to play the Trombone in fourth grade and added the Bass Trombone to his studies a year later. He continued his Jazz education with six years of study at the Jazz St. Louis: JazzU program. Since then, Wyatt has studied with Steve Davis, Randy Napoleon, Walter Blanding, Anthony Stanco, Xavier Davis, Diego Rivera, Rodney Whitaker, Randy “Uncle G” Gillespie, Carl Allen, Dave Dickey, James Burton III, Adam Larson, Tim Green, Brandon Lee, Jim Alfredson, and Gerry Pagano. After studying with Prof. Michael Dease since the age of 12 years old, Wyatt has decided to continue his studies with him and the faculty at Michigan State University. He is currently working to achieve his undergraduate degree in Jazz Trombone Performance.

Wyatt has won many “Best Jazz Soloist” awards at many jazz festivals in the Midwest region. In 2016, Wyatt played bass trombone in the 2016 Jazz Band of America under the direction of Michael Mossman, the 2017 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Paul Contos, the 2018 NYO Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Sean Jones, and the 2021 JAS Academy Big Band under the direction of Christian McBride in Aspen, Colorado. Wyatt was also a member of the Ulysses Owens Jr. Big Band and was a part of their debut record, “Soul Conversations.” In addition, Wyatt has had the opportunity to tour the US, Canada, and Europe with various ensembles and perform at festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Benny Golson Jazz Festival, the Rochester Jazz Festival, and many others. Wyatt has also performed with Michael Dease, Ulysses Owens Jr., Kurt Elling, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diego Rivera, Alexa Tarantino, Carl Maraghi, Lakecia Benjamin, Brandon Lee, Tim Green, Tom “Bones” Malone, Frank Greene, Terell Stafford, Sean Jones, Andre Hayward, Rodney Whitaker, Steve Fidyk, Steve Wilson, Steve Davis, Dave Dickey, Antonio Hart, Stefon Harris, Dianne Reeves, and many other world-class musicians.

Wyatt’s spirituality, positivity, strong work ethic, honesty, and many other characteristics allow him to serve his community in the best way possible and enable people from all ways of life to come together in a beautiful unity through the gift of music.
