Students receive a recommendation from their band or music directors in order to apply and are then selected by an adjudicated process that results in a 6-7 person combo. The students work all week with their guest musical director\, who for this year is saxophonist Adam Larson\, as well as with the U-M Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation faculty\, studying jazz combo performance skills\, jazz theory and improvisation\, jazz history and business of music as well as participating in faculty-led listening sessions\, faculty presentations and private lessons.
