LATE NIGHT: Bob Sweet Quartet

  • 314 South Main Street (map)

There is a $10 cover at the door, and 1 drink minimum for this show.

Bob Sweet is a drummer who has been part of the Detroit/Ann Arbor music scene since the seventies. His approach to creative improvised music is an amalgam of two primary musical environments. He grew up in Detroit and was molded by the city's jazz, blues, soul, and rock-and-roll cultures. There he played with the Sun Messengers, Faruq Z. Bey, Juanita McCray, and Roy Brooks' Aboriginal Percussion Choir.

His second musical home (but by no means secondary) is Woodstock New York, where he has attended Creative Music Studio (CMS) sessions from 1976 up until the present. These sessions have placed him in performance and workshop situations with The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Nana Vasconcelos, Ed Blackwell, Karl Berger, Oliver Lake, Wadada Leo Smith, Jack deJohnette, Dave Holland, Carla Bley, Billy Martin, and too many other master improvisers to list here.
