Charlie Porter Live at Blue LLama Listening Party & Happy Hour

  • 314 S. Main Street Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48104 United States (map)

DOORS @5PM, ALBUM LISTENING @ 5:30PM

ABOUT THE ALBUM:

After meeting through trumpet designer Dave Monet, Charlie became friends with Don Hicks — a trumpet player and proprietor of Blue LLama in Ann Arbor.

Porter explains that after a few trumpet lessons, Hicks invited him to play the club and floated the idea of a live record. “For the live album, I didn’t just want to do music from my previous record Hindsight, I wanted it to be all brand new music.”

Recorded live at the state-of-the-art jazz club in September of 2022, Porter’s latest album embodies the raw energy and spontaneity that have come to be associated with live recordings. Following in the footsteps of his previous album, “Hindsight",” which explored themes of pandemic, social justice, and environmental concerns, this live collection features five previously unrecorded original compositions, each with its own unique story. In addition to the renowned trumpeter, this album boasts Adam Birnbaum on piano, Nick Biello on alto saxophone, Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums, and David Wong on bass. Live at Blue LLama will be released on April 24, 2024 via Bandstand Presents in collaboration with Live at Blue LLama Records, and will be available on all streaming platforms on June 28, 2024.
