Jeff Haas Quintet

  • 314 S. Main Street Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48104 United States (map)

DOORS 5:30PM | SHOW 6:30-7:30PM

The Jeff Haas Quintet transcends traditional jazz boundaries with Haas’s deeply personal original music, the confluence of his passion for jazz, funk, Judaic and classical music. Trumpeter Anthony Stanco, saxophonist Laurie Sears, Marion Hayden on bass and drummer Tariq Gardner bring their own heart and soul to Jeff’s music. The result is, in the words of Jeff’s longtime compositional mentor, jazz master Marcus Belgrave, “An intriguing tapestry rich with ethnicity and improvisation.”

Acclaimed jazz composer and pianist, Jeff Haas, was born and raised in Detroit in a home steeped in the Judaic and classical musical traditions. He learned to crawl in the organ loft of Temple Israel, where his father played the organ and directed the choir. Jeff began his classical piano studies at age 5 under his father’s strict tutelage. He happened upon his first Motown Review at the State Fair in his early teens and hung out at the back door of Baker’s, a mile from his home, soaking up the jazz vibes. Jeff spent the next three decades finding his compositional voice, organically unifying his wide-ranging influences. Haas has since received commissions from Chamber Music America, Arts Midwest, the National Jewish Federation, and the City of Detroit to name a few. Jeff has well over 150 compositions in his book originals.
