Drummer J Rowe and Bassist Jordan Schug have been working together musically, supporting other artists and each other, for over 15 years. In the Fall/Winter of 2022 they co-composed an album of original music titled “Missant”. The compositions were born out of a natural culmination of years of musical discussions, shared records and shared experience between the two leaders. The production of their new album came about with the help Grammy nominated artist Warren Defever, who brought the group into his studio.

The J Rowe / Jordan Schug Sextet will be performing these original pieces. Rowe and Schug call upon the deep musical knowledge that they each bring to the table. Both highly influenced by British Progressive Jazz groups of early 70’s such as Soft Machine and Ian Carr’s Nucleus, while staying firmly rooted in the classic sounds of Detroit heroes Marcus Belgrave, Larry Nozero & Lyman Woodard. It’s these influences that shape their sound, at once reminiscent and refreshingly brand new.
