Shane Karas is a jazz saxophonist and a student at Michigan State University, majoring in jazz studies under Rodney Whitaker. Born and raised in Metro Detroit, he began playing saxophone at the age of 11. In high school, he immersed himself in Detroit’s jazz scene, performing at renowned clubs such as Cliff Bell’s, Bert’s Marketplace, Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, Aretha’s Jazz Cafe, and Woodbridge Pub. Through these experiences, he had the opportunity to jam regularly with notable artists like James Carter, Martha Reeves, Dwight Adams, and Ralphe Armstrong.
