Coming off the heels of pianist/composer Mathis Picard’s new album Heat Of The Moment on La Reserve records, the Mathis Picard Trio (where Picard is joined by Parker McAllister on bass & Joe Dyson on bass) continue their national release tour with a special show at the Blue Llama in Ann Arbor, November 9th, 2023.

Heat Of The Moment is a project rooted in Picard’s search for the sonic connections between healing and presence within a world facing many challenges including that of climate change & justice. Inviting both the trio and listener on a unique musical journey, this project paints a joyous portrait of the musical community that the pianist has built over a decade in The United States, whist bringing Picard’s newest compositions to the forefront.

Mathis Picard, born May 30th, 1995,  is a French-Malagasy pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader who currently resides in New York City. Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance, Mathis creates his own musical style that is influenced by his multi-national background.

Beginning his studies at the piano at the age of 3, Mathis was immediately passionate about music’s healing quality and now focuses on sharing that passion globally. His debut genre-bending EP “World Unity” came out in 2020 on Outside In Music Records which put him on the map as “a fascinating name to follow in any context” (All About Jazz). As a solo artist, Picard then released his first solo piano album, ”Live at the Museum” (Winter 2022) for which he was praised as having a “brilliant classical technique and a vivid imagination” (Downbeat). Most recently Mathis released his fugue “Mysticism of Money in D Minor” for NPR Live Sessions, released another live solo piano EP “Live At Blue Llama” and joined the Yamaha pianist roster.

Picard has had the honor of working with artists such as Ron Carter, Lillias White, Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Lee Ritenour, Daniel J Watts, DJ Kindness, Braxton Cook, Veronica Swift, Etienne Charles and more.
