Percussionist Kevin Jones, is a native of culturally fertile Englewood, New Jersey, Kevin grew up in a household immersed in jazz, soul, gospel and blues. He was drawn to music at the early age of 10. At the age of 13 he was touring with an R&B group produced by All Platinum Records (Later Sugarhill Records). Living in Englewood he was surrounded by excellent musicians and recording artists. By the time he was 19 he was touring Europe and recording with Jazz great Archie Shepp. Just months later he would join the Isley Brothers where he toured and recorded on some of their most iconic albums. During that time he would also tour with Whitney Houston for over four years.

During his career Kevin recorded and toured with Jazz legends Reggie Workman, Hilton Ruiz, Grady Tate, Winard Harper and Charles McPherson. His touring also included Angela Winbush, Gloria Gaynor and Jazz great Benny Powell. Kevin can also be heard on recordings by House music legends Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Kevin Hedge and Blaze and R&B legend Angie Stone.

Kevin currently is on faculty in the Jazz Studies and Percussion Areas at Michigan State University. Most recently he has been playing with Detroit legend Wendell Harrison, Vincent Chandler as well as the Detroit Jazz Festival All Stars. Most recently he was asked to briefly join the touring band of the Broadway Musical “Ain’t Too Proud -The Life and Times of The Temptations.”
