ABOUT SEAN:
Sean Dobbins got his start as sought-after Detroit area jazz sideman at a young age, when he would regularly play with Blue Note artist Louis Smith. As Sean’s Career progressed, he found himself the recipient of many awards and accolades including the “Woody Herman Jazz Award”, an award for outstanding musicianship, as well as the Louis Armstrong Scholarship. Due to Sean’s great talent both as a player and an educator, he has been the focus of countless news articles, jazz radio programs, and documentaries.
Sean’s sound can best be described as hard-driving, solid rhythm with refreshing melodic sensibility. Some of Sean’s influences include Art Blakey, Jeff Hamilton, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Ed Thigpen, Sonny Payne, as well as Detroit area greats Gerald Cleaver and the one and only Elvin Jones.
ABOUT DAVE STRYKER:
Whether you’ve heard guitarist Dave Stryker leading his own group (with 35 CD’s as a leader to date), or as a featured sideman with Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why the Village Voice calls him “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years.”
Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Stryker has performed with jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie and Freddie Hubbard and has recorded over 150 of his own compositions. Stryker currently teaches jazz guitar at Rutgers University, Indiana University, and Montclair State University, and continues to perform with his various ensembles.
ABOUT JARED GOLD:
Organist Jared Gold has become one of the New York area's most in-demand musicians, drawing on influences like Larry Young and Jack McDuff while developing his own unique voice. His latest release, Metropolitan Rhythm (2015, Posi-Tone), features guitarist Dave Stryker and drummer Kush Abadey, and includes original compositions and covers of songs by composers like Paul McCartney and Thelonious Monk. Gold has earned accolades such as the 2013 Rising Star on Organ critics poll in DownBeat Magazine and has released seven previous albums on Posi-Tone. A New Jersey native and William Paterson University graduate, Gold tours internationally and continues to innovate with his company, JG3 Tech, building portable MIDI organs and bass pedals.
